UkuleMe! Learn/Strum/Sing-along!

Ukuleme is a traveling Ukulele learning/playing forum aimed to bring people together to learn, play, sing, and creatively explore this wonderfully versatile instrument. What this event will entail is a 20ish minute group lesson, followed by a group strum and singalong that will includes two 45 minute sets with a break in between them. The first set will include more beginner friendly songs which are typically comprised of just a few simple chords. The second set will be designed to appease those that are more familiar with the ukulele, but not so advanced that beginners will be unable to continue to learn. As your instructors (Lindsey Lou Stauffer and Teresa Michele Bawd), we encourage your questions and are there to help you all along the way. We are also available to give private lessons. This months theme is super easy music, so we'll have a little bit of everything in the mix. :) The songs lyrics and chords will be projected onto a screen accompanied by the image of where to place your fingers on the neck of the ukulele. These pictorial chord diagrams will be projected next to the chord changes within the song, making it incredibly easy for beginners to keep up with the song, and yet won’t impede more advanced players. Someone will be available to anyone needing assistance along the way. We will also be making available for purchase songbooks of the material covered during the event so you can continue to enjoy and advance on your own time! There is no advanced ticket buying. You just pay $7 at the door. The lounge opens at 2:00pm, so feel free to come in as early as you want to early grab your favorite seat, and get all settled in for the 2 fun packed hours ahead! The Funhouse is all ages until 10PM, so feel free to bring the kids! We look forward to playing with you! <3 :) <3 Mahalo!

Bill SummersSaxophonist Donald Harrison Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. The fifty-six year old force of nature has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments. He has developed into a young modern jazz master following decades of apprenticing with master musicians of many styles. After learning to play his approximation of dozens of iconic saxophonists from the 20's to the 70's, he created four influential styles of jazz music. The first was developed in 1979 at the age of nineteen. His legacy of adding new ideas to acoustic jazz was first documented on his composition, "New York Second line," a mixture of the sounds andculture of New Orleans' traditional brass band music with New York modern jazz. Harrison's spirit continued to evolve on his 1996 recording, "Nouveau Swing." He merged the swing beat of modern jazz with modern dance beats like funk, soul, R&B, hip-hop and rock on this recording. In 2010, "Quantum Leap" moved the sound of jazz into another frontier with his addition of new areas to take time, harmony and melody.Harrison's latest project, "The Eclectic Jazz Revolution," continues to explore his quantum jazz sound. This recording highlights diverse sounds including - funk, soul, cutting edge modern jazz, blues, smooth jazz, steppers music and New Orleans music. He also debuts his three-genre composition, "Congo Square." Harrison sings an Afro-New Orleans call and response chant over a drum choir in the first movement. He melds the chants and rhythms of Afro-New Orleans culture into a classical orchestral work in the second movement and concludes with a brilliant sound in jazz when he mixes excerpts of the first and second movements with his modern jazz group in the third movement. The development of young musicians is important to Harrison,he has nurtured and...
